There aren\u2019t many of those out there, but a few videos on YouTube were enough to get me inspired. Of course, welding is not my best skill, so I decided to design one using plywood. This was the first prototype, and I\u2019ve learned a lot while building it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1 &#8211;&nbsp;The idea and main parts<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The chassis will be made from plywood, using industrial bearings, wheelbarrow wheels, 2x 24V wheelchair motors, and 6 12A 12V batteries. Here is the parts list:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>18mm wooden planks \u2013 I used \u201chobby plates\u201d instead of plywood<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>M20 threaded rods for axles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>6x 260mm (4.10\/3.5-4\u2033) wheels with 20mm axle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>12x UCS204 bearings for the wheels<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2 wheelchair motors \u2013 24V 350W geared motors<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>2x 12V batteries (using 2 batteries for now)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Sabertooth dual 25A motor driver with RC input<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>RC tx and rx \u2013 Using Graupner MX-20 from my multirotor<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Screws, nuts, washers, etc.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3x linear 24V actuators<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u00d8600mm PVC pipe as plow (cut in half)<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bicycle sprockets &amp; chains<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Bolts and screws<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>3x linear actuators bought on aliexpress.com<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2 &#8211; Building chassis<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>I used hobby plates instead of plywood as I don\u2019t have a table saw yet. I started by building a main box. with bearings inside. You can see there is a hole for an M20 nut. I thought I\u2019d try to force an M20 nut on the rod and secure it with locking nuts on each side. From a mechanical point of view, the idea should work, and it did. Test run. The batteries are a little bit flat, but I still could test the robot.<\/p>\n\n\n[mom_video type=&#8221;vimeo&#8221; id=&#8221;103018814&#8243; width=&#8221;746&#8243; height=&#8221;502&#8243;]\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 7&nbsp;&#8211; The conclusion<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After the test run, I realized that one bicycle chain driving all 3 wheels is not a good idea. Everything worked fine when I was driving back and forth, but when I tried to turn, the loads on the chain were too much, and the chain kept falling off the sprockets. I tried to tension the chains even more and tried several other tension solutions, but nothing helped. I could replace one long chain with 3 short ones, moving the motors to the middle and trying that, but at this point, I already had another idea. I was disappointed that the chains performed so badly, but at the same time, I was happy with the result. It was my first custom-made RC robot, and I learned a lot in the process of creating it. The first prototype of the 6\u00d76 wheel drive RC snowplow robot was scrapped, and I went back to the drawing board (SolidWorks) and designed a new one with custom-made belts.
